Auto-Fun of the Day :: 4-4-2008

Sorry about the lack of auto-fun/otherwise today ... I had this weird idea that an actual post was coming at some point, but um ... where was I ... Good morning, Australia! Welcome to your daily auto-fun! To all of you on the east coast of America, welcome to your bedtime story!

quote: "The inferno of the living is not something that will be; if there is one, it is what is already here, the inferno where we live every day, that we form by being together. There are two ways to escape suffering it. The first is easy for many: accept the inferno and become such a part of it that you can no longer see it. The second is risky and demands constant vigilance and apprehension: seek and learn to recognize who and what, in the midst of the inferno, are not inferno, then make them endure, give them space." (Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities)

1) Cait & Alex & I eagerly trotted to this Barnes & Noble the other evening so I could share the thrill of Dirty Girls being on the shelves ... only to discover that it is closed. Which is sad. They had a good selection of art books. When even chain bookstores start losing their lease ... sigh. (@nytimes)
2) Speaking of dirty books, a "legit" literary writer leaves behind novels for "the parallel universe of erotica" and finds success. (@the independent uk)
3) A 1968 Mechanix Illustrated article predicts What Life Will Be Like in 2008. Srsly where are my rockets. (@modern mechanix)
4) Three poems by Monica Youn (@guernica)
5) "I believe in a human being that is not upset.": that was bad; i shouldn't have done that, by Tao Lin (@fou magazine)
6) Lozo is holding a tournament for Comments? Obvs, I vote Sportscenter or whatever. (@wdwgdab)
7) On hyperlink abuse: Links that stink on news sites." (@slate.com)
8) Q& A with Arrested Development's Will Arnett on Amy, his new movie, etc.: "I went to a hockey game last night, and this guy sitting behind me says, 'Would it be weird if I did the Gob chicken dance to you?' (@Radar)
9) Alison Bechdel on being censored in Utah: "awesome! I'm a pornographer! Well, in Utah, anyway." (@dykes to watch out for)

wait...is that you on the cover of the book? because not only would that really prompt my sales...but i have to say it's very attractive...in a strictly plutonic way.

B&N can be a let down. I was searching for a book for like ever and finally found it.

haha ... no, that is not me on the cover of the book. But if it was, I hope I'd get paid a lot for the full frontal. But you should buy it anyway, as I'm sure ... you know. You'd love erotica for women!

part 2 of the link: 1/usa
Gah!
Clearly, this is a conspiracy against the semicolon. Or possibly the characters '1/usa'. What can it mean?

It was there in the original post, hidden behind the 'leave your comment' panel. You just had to click and drag into nothingness to select it, a sort of internet trust-fall.

That, or I guess you could just triple-click like a big cheater.
